Smanela (SMA Negeri Lima) Denpasar sekarang pada awalnya adalah SMPP Negeri 32 Denpasar , yakni suatu sekolah model yang disiapkan untuk memebrikan ketrampilan praktis yang dibutuhkan masyarakat , oleh karenanya fasilitas yang disediakan cukup memadai mulai dari lahan seluas 5 hektar. Bantuan langsung dari Pemerintah Jepangpun diterima dan masih dapat digunakan sampai sekarang seperti berbagai jenis batuan serta beberapa mikroskop. Ketrampilan yang pernah diberikan kepada siswa saat itu antara lain ketrampilan pertukangan , permesinan , pertanian sampai ilmu maritim. Konsep ruang belajarpun ditata sedemikian mengikuti pola cottage dimana satu blok hanya terdiri dari dua local. Jadi pada dasarnya saat itu SMPP menikmati fasilitas yang memadai.
